On the morning of February 27, in the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone, An Giang province, the groundbreaking ceremony took place for the Ho Cua Can Water Plant project, the Bai Bon waste treatment zone project, and the Bai Bon waste-to-energy plant, with a total investment of approximately 1,238 billion VND to serve APEC 2027.

These are strategic projects and facilities that not only serve the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum in 2027 in Phu Quoc (APEC 2027) but also contribute to providing clean water and electricity for residents, fostering sustainable tourism economic development on the island.

 Accordingly, the Ho Cua Can Water Plant project covers a total area of 3.6 hectares (in Suoi Cat quarter, Cua Duong), with a designed capacity of 49,500 m³/day. Constructed by BIWASE Corporation, the project utilizes suspended sludge blanket reactor technology, lamella clarifiers, and a 2-tier HDPE filtration system, ensuring a reliable clean water supply.

The Bai Bon waste treatment zone project (Bai Bon quarter, Ham Ninh) covers an area of 15 hectares, with a waste treatment capacity of 250 tons/day and a total investment of 382 billion VND.

Meanwhile, the Bai Bon waste-to-energy plant project covers an area of approximately 10 hectares, with a waste treatment capacity of about 200 - 300 tons/day and a power generation capacity of 4 MW

Mr. Le Trung Ho - Vice Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee - stated that the projects breaking ground today have strategic significance in serving APEC 2027 and the sustainable tourism economic development of Phu Quoc. All the above projects will be completed by the investors before June 30, 2027.

As this is the initial step with a massive workload, the province requests the Phu Quoc Economic Zone Management Board to act as the focal point to enhance inspection, urge progress, and promptly resolve any arising obstacles, ensuring the early completion of the projects on schedule. 

"Provincial departments and agencies must coordinate closely with relevant units to process administrative procedures. The Phu Quoc Special Zone needs to accelerate site clearance to expedite the progress of the aforementioned projects, contributing to a successful APEC 2027," Mr. Ho recommended.
