Under the chairing of Dr. LS Dong Xuan Thu, chief editor of Vietnam Environment and Urban Magazine, experts have frankly exchanged and clarified many issues about the water industry such as: Current situation of water tariff; Legal documents related to water tariff; Pricing methods of water; Competence to formulate, appraise and approve water tariff; Water tariff with water utilities; with consumers ...

In particular, many experts believe that the variation of water tariff between provinces and cities as well as between clean water treatment plants in Hanoi in recent years is due to the price options related to investment costs, asset depreciation, environmental conditions, consumption demand. As a result, it is not possible to apply a uniform price.

According to a water expert, Mr. Tran Quang Hung, the biggest responsibility for water supply belongs to the government. Because water is a special commodity that directly affects the health and life of millions of people. Therefore, the government recently criticized enterprises for providing unclean water, pollution, water tariff, etc. Consequently, this causes many people to understand that those enterprises are solely at fault. However, the biggest responsibility should firstly belong to the government.

Through the seminar, the society will have a clearer and objective view on issues related to the clean water tariff; Water utilities will better understand their consumers' concerns to continue promoting and further improving the quality of their products and services. Quality of life of the community will be improved. State management agencies such as the Ministry of Construction, the Ministry of Finance, the local government, other relevant ministries and agencies will pay more attention to the water supply sector to promote and support at their best for the development of the water industry in Vietnam.

The seminar on water tariff was highly appreciated by experts, managers, press agencies and public in terms of disseminated information.

This is one of the events in the "Water and Life" series organized by Vietnam Environment and Urban Magazine and Vietnam Water Supply and Sewerage Magazine to create a forum for regular information exchange among scientists, experts, managers, state management agencies and press agencies. It contributes a positive voice in the effective protection, exploitation, management and use of water resources – environment; and improves the quality of life.
