Through the implementation, the contesters have cleaned and planted green areas at 17/17 locations to decorate and create small gardens. These 17 sites were formerly dumping points caused environmental pollution and effected urban beauty. Fortunately, they have now become 17 green areas and beautiful landscapes for the town.
The determination of eliminating environmental pollutions of the town conveys the message of environmental protection to the community. The habit of littering in contravention of regulations is gradually changing, therefore it contributes to improve the landscape and atmosphere for the whole area. Ms. Quach Kim Oanh, Head of the Town’s DNRE, said that following the results of the competition, the unit advised the Town People's Committee to issue Plan No. 2241/KH-UBND on 18/9/2019 about organization of activities in response to the Campaign to make the world cleaner on 22/9/2019. Accordingly, the People's Committees of wards are responsible for cleaning, maintaining small landscapes, at the same time to continue reviewing spontaneous dumping sites and plan to clean up, plant trees to create green areas. This is also the basis for evaluating and proposing the provincial People's Committee and the provincial People's Committee for reward at wards level in environmental protection.
Ms. Oanh added that in order to guide the whole community to contribute to environmental protection, the DNRE has coordinated with the Culture and Information Department to implement the propaganda by road shows from 22/5 to 31/5/2019 on the purpose and meaning of the 2019 World Environment Day across the town. This activity has brought positive effects, thereby it raises people's awareness in environmental protection in the locality.
Besides, the DNRE has coordinated with the Culture and Information Department to hang 300 propaganda banners with the theme: "Air pollution and our actions"; save resources, use environmentally friendly products, remove pollution points - turn dump sites into gardens. The unit also coordinated to organize and classify and collect milk boxes along the main roads from 27/5 to 20/6/2019.
More than 98% of people participated in waste classification
Based on the results obtained from the waste classification at source program in the Town Administration Center (Nhi Dong 2, Di An Ward) in 2018, as a result, 98% of the people in the area currently conducts waste classification at source.
Following that success, the DNRE has developed plans and programs to spread and call for participation of the people on waste classification. Along with that, the DNRE advised to launch the program "Rescue of dead garbage – sort and recover milk boxes" at 9 primary schools and kindergartens in Di An ward. With the support and positive contributions of all teachers and pupils, in only 3 weeks of implementation, the unit has recovered about 1,083 kg of milk boxes.
Recognizing the efforts of the schools, the Town People's Committee commended three participants: Vo Thi Sau Kindergarten, Di An C Primary School and Ly Thuong Kiet Primary School for their good achievements.
In addition, the DNRE has coordinated with sponsors to organize the program "Exchange waste for gifts" (including 5 booths) at the 2019 Environment Day. The program has attracted nearly 400 guests. As a result, the functional sector has exchanged nearly 10 tons of waste, including paper scrap, damaged bulbs, plastic bottles of all kinds; distribute more than 2,500 gifts including energy-saving light bulbs, cooking oil, dishwashing liquid, instant noodles, cloth bags ...
However, according to Ms. Oanh, the environmental protection in the area still has some limitations e.g. propaganda activities is intermittent and transmission of all the meaning of waste management and environmental protection to the community is facing many difficulties. In the coming time, the DNRE will regularly coordinate with the Town Radio Station and other departments, agencies to propagate and innovate the ways and contents for the propagation to be really meaningful and effective.
